Going Traditional c:

Journal Entry: Mon May 4, 2009, 6:33 AM

well, not totally traditional, because the tablet I have saves so much time but I do want to start some traditional animations. Problem is.. the light box I have is not so good at the job, so I decided that I'm going to build a better one. I have the plan of it (how its going to work etcetc) but I just need to find a good place to get an already built animation disk. Nothing fancy, just a Perspex disk with 2 holes in it.

I found this one but it seems kind of expensive [link] (2nd one down) I could try to build one myself but I don’t think I'd be able to make it perfect. I know I'm going to have to order 1000 sheets of 12F paper (£22 - £35) and I would need a 12 Field guide (£15) though I could just attempt to print one off some how.

I also got me some hardware to convert an analog signal into a digital signal which would enable me to use better cameras then the web cam I was using before. I have a functioning Kodak digital camera that could do the trick but I also have a JVC camcorder which works some of the time, but the image flickers quite often. I'll get to try the piece of hardware when It gets here, crossing my fingers that it works c: I'm pretty sure it will though

That is allll.

its good to have a variety of skills in different types of animation. Try stop motion and clay motion too while you're at it

I wish I had a light table like that. With the camera and stuff. All I have is a light tracer.

If I had thought about it I would have asked if I could take the ones they had at uni because no one used them any more.. traditional animation was just too much effort for those students.

I should swipe one.... er.. ask for one.... and maybe the old batch scanner (they got shiny new ones, I wanna see if I can take the old one)

swipe an acme hole punch too, those things are more expensive then any other animation tools

they'd never let me have those. I'm gonna have to stick with pre-punched papaer. Such a nice, slightly waxy, yet rough feel.

I'm attempting to do some traditional animation stuff for my A Level art project with my light box, it is a bloody nightmare. Teachers all think it's witchcraft of course.
Anywho, I was just wondering- why are they circular in shape?

:icontyokio:
they're circular because it allows the frames to be rotated, once the peg bar is attached to the light box rotating the frames isnt so easy, especially if you have the light box at a steep angle. so they have holes in them so they can be put into a wooden frame and can very easily be rotated.

Hey Tyokio,

Just came back from London yesterday and do you remember Bex :iconbexxyluv:
(aka Ducky)?

She has a self built lightbox, think her dad or Rob built it but you could ask her for some help or something
