Why do american studios think that its a brilliant Idea to make a remake of a hit british series? I just found out they are making a remake of "life on mars" and imidiatly thought, why after all the great successes that they've had in the past would they try to do it again? when I say "past successes" I mean things like "American Top gear" and "American Red Dwarf". I never saw anything wrong with the origional series and it seems most people I've heard from america seem to share the same opinion. thought perhaps british comedy doesnt work in america the same way it does over here and the same vice versa. probably why I dont like many american sitcoms :C. but there must also be a reason to why these remakes never seem to do so well and that might just be a budget thing.

I wander if america made their own Father Ted or American Rab C Nesbit (how would that work?)

Edit" upon inspection Americas not the only one who does this so I'll do the honorable thing and offer the other side of the story too."

British tv remakes american shows too, but really the only ones I've seen on the list who've actually gone on to be succesful are game shows like Gladiators, SuperMarket Sweep, The Apprentice and Family Fortunes. there are others too so heres the list for all to see!

most of our remakes didnt seem to last long either.

Most likely because a lot of Americans wont get a lot of jokes...

lol, id never heard of any of these things... woulda thought they could think of a more creative name for them than just sticking american infront of it :P

i hope they dont start making british versions of american shows... or do they already do that?
it happens this side too, I dont get alot of jokes made in american shows. but I still found some of the shows I've seen from america really funny even if some of the jokes flew past my head. its kinda like if britain made a remake of familly guy for the english market using english culture jokes rather then american ones, I probably still wouldnt get them because I care so little about the english "celeb" fad.

im glad that they havnt just added the word british in front at least.
:XD: Yes- I think the only reason I know of American celebrities is through the Family Guy jokes about them.

A Curse is merely a Blessing in disguise.
I dont think they added a "american" infront of the titles I was just stating the fact they were an american verison of. in american they would be called "Red Dwarf" and "Life on Mars"

I honestly never had the urge to watch family guy, so I wouldn't know about that XP And I don't get many celebrity jokes at all 'cause I don't know anyone... I think that kind of thing's boring as hell...
